Elapsed time averages for 2007 -  selected Fire and Medical events.

The events selected are representative of the most common types and include responses
by departments all across Shelby County, many of which are volunteer. Agencies included
are listed here.

Response times will often be quicker in areas covered by paid fire departments since there
are employees at the fire station ready to respond versus volunteers who leave their homes
or jobs to travel to the fire station and then to the scene.

North Shelby is a paid Fire Department and has allowed us to use their statistics
for comparison. As an example North Shelby arrives on wrecks on average in 4 minutes and
50 seconds versus 7 minutes and 12 seconds average for all departments.

On Structure Fires North Shelby arrives on average in 5 minutes 50 seconds (5:50) versus
the average for the entire county of 8 minutes 41 seconds (8:41).
