Gary Waters retired as the Fire Chief of Pelham earlier this year. He also resigned his
position as the Fire Chief's Association representative to the 9-1-1 Board, a position he
held since 1988!

Gary served as the first and only Chair of the 9-1-1 Board. He led the public
education campaign to get a positive vote for adding a 9-1-1 fee to the phone bills and helped
guide the 9-1-1 system through many changes and improvements.

The leadership Gary provided the 9-1-1 Board and Staff has been invaluable
and we were proud to recognize his service at a Fire and EMS Association meeting
on July 10, 2008, almost 20 years to the day from his first meeting on July 20, 1988.

Gary Waters and Sally Cox, 9-1-1 Board Member
Sally presented Gary with a watch to symbolize the time spent
working with the 9-1-1 Board.

Gary and John Ellison, 9-1-1 Director
This is the "first dollar" received as income from what in 1988 was called South Central Bell.
It is a check for 71 cents that we have kept all these years and true to Gary's unselfish
ways he insisted we keep it at the 9-1-1 Offices after it was presented to him.

Gary, Chief Wayne Shirley Chelsea FD, John
Chief Shirley is the new appointment to the 9-1-1 Board from the Fire Chief's
Association and he presented Gary with a plaque on behalf of the Association.
